Hanse 345 and 385

So we've been renting boats but it is getting pricey! so we're dreaming of our own sailboat for our small family! We're really drawn to Hanses they seem easy to handle for the kids to learn on, but also have room to grow with more sails later. we're looking at the Hanse 315, but it might be a squeeze with our two growing kids and a goldie and it's over our $80k budget and we still want those fun upgrades!

Now we're checking out the Hanse 345 and 385. They seem close in price, but not sure which one to pick, they seem similar. please help!

Renting boats isn't it if you do it all too often. I think Hanse 385 is better for you as a family since it's got more space and better performance. You're not new to sailing anyway... Hanse 385 is better for you if you want something you can keep for long.

The 345 is like a 315 but offers more legroom,great for taller kids, a golden retriever, and any upgraeds you might want later. The 385 gives you even more room and storage options, but it could hit your wallet harder and might raise your marina fees too. Both sail really well and are perfect for kids. Personally, I'd go for the 345 since it balances cost, size, and room for growth. Just like with closets, you'll probabley always want a bigger boat

The golden retriever pretty much sealed the deal for me! I've seen both and yes, 345 is quite bigger

If I were to choose, I'd also go with the 385.
Among my network with a growing family, it's their preferred choice as comfort and space are key.
It will also likely give you more room to grow into those extra sails and cruising aspirations down the line.
But before you make a decision, try to step aboard both if you can so you have a better point for comparison.
The difference in interior volume is also more noticeable in person!

I'm with @ReefRunner! I'd strongly lean towards finding a well-maintained 345, considering your family's needs, budget and the desire for upgrades. It's already a significant upgrade in livable space from the 315. I think it has a very clever use of interior volume, so it feels larger than its length suggests! It's also manageable for newer sailors while having enough performance to grow into later on. But I would also second @Anchor.Ed's advice and do a walk-through of both models in person. Get a real feel for the space, imagine your family and the dog on board, and consider how you'll use the boat!

We initially thought weekend rentals would just be enough to temporarily meet our needs. But after we borrowed a friend's 345 for a trip along the coast, we were completely sold. The space turned out to be perfect for our two boys and our border collie. Honestly, if I hadn't had the chance to try it out myself, I would have assumed we'd need something larger
