Lewmar H3 contactor issue

My Lewmar H3 windlass stopped working. I opened the case slightly and found a broken lead on the contactor, it's held by a band to the gear assembly, can the contactor be replaced without fully dismantling the windlass?

You likely don't need to fully dismantle the windlass to replace the contactor.
Many Lewmar H3 models allow for access to the contactor by just opening the case enough to get at the wiring and mounting screws.
But you'll probably want to disconnect your battery power first, of course!

I wasn't sure if I'd have to tear the whole thing apart, I'll give it a shot with the case open and power disconnected

Hey, have you fixed this one yet? Personally, I'd recommend against trying to do it with the windlass still fully assembled. To get proper access to the contactor and the wiring, you're really going to need to take the top off and lift the motor or gearbox assembly out of the base. If you try to do it in its original place, you can risk damaging other wires or the seals, which would just lead to more problems.

If you're considering my suggestion, just take your time, get a good diagram for reference, and make sure you label everything as you disconnect it! Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Replacing the contactor without fully dismantling the windlass is generally possible on most Lewmar H3 models so I'm with @Anchor.Ed here but I also totally understand the advice of caution from @MiHans3r!!

The contactor is usually secured with a band or clamp and can be unbolted and disconnected from the wiring. You'll need to carefully label each wire before disconnecting it to ensure you reconnect them correctly. A good quality set of terminal crimpers is essential for a secure connection. You can find a replacement contactor online or at a marine supply store by searching for the specific part number found on the original contactor.
